In the middle

Although I would like to go to many countries and cities of the world, I feel a special attraction for the countries located in Western Asia, specifically, Turkey. I like to travel there, because that is a place where coexist the Western and Eastern cultures, confusing the European and Asian traditions.

I imagine, in the morning, walking for Istanbul (old Boundary between Europe and Asia, before known as Constantinople), and the afternoon, visiting some Mosque Muslin prayer. I would like to know the Mediterranean Sea and I would like with all people that I can.

But I don’t only feel a predilection for Turkey, but also I would like to know the rest of the countries that make up what is known as the Balkans like Serbia, Croatia or Greece. Also, countries like Egypt in the North Africa, where I like to study in some university, exploiting the vast history of places like Cairo University.

Anyway, I love everything about with the crossroad between Western and Eastern, its syncretism and fabulous culture.

Christmas!!!!!!!

The Christmas is one of most important festivity around the world. We can found the origins of Christmas in the annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Although it is a Christian celebration, his power crosses the five continents and, in several countries, to generate big celebrations surrounded by gifts, games and memories.

Every year, I celebrate Christmas with my parents, with a delicious dinner, while waiting for midnight to open the gifts. I like Christmas, because is a moment full of hope and joy, specially, to children. However, this commemoration has changed dramatically from his establishment, because it has become a commercial celebration, leaving very little to religion or, in my opinion, his true sense: to share.

Abuses in the Church

Paedophilia in the church

The causes of child molesters is a topic that we lead through a fact that, sadly, it has been considered how one of crimes most terrible of the church’s history.

In this sense, I think that these cases are exceptions, but, while, it is a demonstration, firstly, about of complex process that it live inside the church, where the priests should keep the celibacy, without options to develop like the men that they are. However, these sexual abuses happen also with the sisters and nuns, so it’s not just a problem linked with the man condition, but is about the non-recognition of the human nature. In general, these are close to the causes of the sexual abuses in the Catholic Church.

However, in my opinion, despite that the complex situation in which develop the priestly status, the child molesters can’t be allow because they are abhorrent circumstances in which the children are prejudiced forever. The trauma to which they are exposed implied psychological damage with unknown consequences in the future.

Karadima cases such as only give evidence about the dark intrigues within the Church, which, although I don’t think that match with a paedophilia ring, it show an irrefutable fact: the conflicts of interest are very important to interact with the image of the church, not only about the priests or Pope, but also to interact with major institutions of power led for the Church.

The followers of Church reduced more and more, in a situation that maybe never end, but certainly it could be appeased with changes in the norms and rules that dominate the world of priesthood or, at least, it allow a renovation in the Church’s image about new ways to address these abuses.

Cut!

My favourite piece of technology

The technology is so exciting and surprising, but I would like to buy a digital camera, I just want that. A digital camera, because it’s a device that could help for realize my dream: make a short-film. In this moment I’m saving money to buy it, but, unfortunately, I have saved little money, yet.
However, the kind of camera I would like to have is not in digital format, but in 35 mm format. Almost all movies have been filmed in this format, although these cameras are big and heavy. It’s just a dream, because I don’t have any idea about work with this type of camera.
Actually, the cameras are a technology very important in our lives. In the beginning, the cameras were only use for filming movies, although, later, they were used for making TV programs. With its mass, the cameras became in a device technology that could be achieved by any person, like more entertainment.
For me, this new access is a good opportunity to realize one of my dreams

Carefree

Free Time

Although I don’t have enough free time cause my works at university, I try to take advantage of those little spaces that I can enjoy without studying.

I like to play football with my friends and then I like to share a barbecue and beers with them. Also, I try to go to the theatre or cinema.

If I have some available book, I mean, some book with a different topic from what I always read, I like to read it during weekend; novels, stories or poetry are good options. However, I like to write, no novels or great texts, but I enjoy writing little things like my memories or some thing like a script.

The music is always present: enjoy to my favorite bands or look some video clips on TV.

For me, playing sports is very important for and the human development. When I was a child, during my school age, I played football in the school team and I tried to practice sports like tennis or basketball.

I think that I use very well my spare time: I try to do what I like and I socialize with my closest people. Well, I forget my responsibilities for a while.

A man in history

Gabriel Salazar

He is a Chilean historian, philosopher and sociologist was born in 1931, which has been one of founders of historical discipline called Nueva Historia Social in Chile.

He studied in the University of Chile during the sixties, even reaching to work with Mario Góngora, winner of the History National Award in 1976, although this not last long because the dictatorship that reigned in Chile since 1973. In this context, Salazar decided to accept a scholarship from University of Hull, England, exiles in this country to 1985.

In his back, Salazar published Labradores, peones y proletarios, which, from a new vision, talked about life of peasants and workers like interesting subject from social and historical perspective. From this publication, the Salazar work’s has been aimed at rescuing to called “popular subject”, which, rises like image of the marginalized sectors, without relevance in the traditional historiography. Some related works are La historia desde abajo y desde dentro (2003) or Ser niño “huacho” en la historia de Chile. Siglo XIX (2006). With this work, Salazar was awarded with the History National Award in 2006.

From Chilean sociology, the social perspective from which Salazar make history –making relevant the social conflict in all its forms- establish an interesting expedient for sociologist analyze, in especial, for analyze within the social process in Chile. For other hand, this work is interesting for all social sciences, because permits placed from new theoretical view to social problems.

So, for me, Gabriel Salazar is a very important person within my discipline and a very important expert in the national historiography in recent years.
